Admission Requirements

Below are the requirements for admission into the Junior Secondary School (JSS1) and Senior Secondary School (SS1) at Al-Musteqim Model School.

JSS 1 Entry

For Primary 6 / Year 6 Graduates

  • Primary School Leaving Certificate (PSLC)
  • Common Entrance Examination result or proof of Primary 6 completion
  • Birth Certificate or Age Declaration (minimum age: 10 years)
  • Passport photographs (4 recent, coloured, white background)
  • Completion of Al-Musteqim Entrance Examination (English, Maths, General Knowledge)
  • Evidence of good character from previous school
  • Two guarantors who are Nigerian citizens

SS 1 Entry

For JSS3 / Junior WAEC Graduates

  • Junior Secondary School Certificate (JSSC) / Junior WAEC result
  • Minimum of 5 credits including English Language and Mathematics at the Junior WAEC
  • Birth Certificate or Age Declaration (maximum age: 17 years)
  • Passport photographs (4 recent, coloured, white background)
  • Transfer Certificate from previous school
  • Completion of Al-Musteqim Placement Examination
  • Parent/Guardian must attend an orientation interview
How to Apply

Application Process

Our straightforward application process ensures a smooth and transparent enrolment experience for every family.

Obtain Application Form

Collect the official application form from the school's Administrative Office at Oke-Fomo, Ilorin during school hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–2:00 PM). A non-refundable application fee of ₦5,000 is payable at the school bursary. Forms are also available for download on our website (soft copies must be printed and submitted in person).

Complete and Submit the Form

Fill out the application form completely and accurately. Attach all required documents (certificates, photographs, guarantor forms) and return the complete package to the Admissions Office. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

Sit the Entrance Examination

Qualified applicants will be invited to sit the Al-Musteqim Entrance/Placement Examination. For JSS1 entry, the exam covers English Language, Mathematics, and General Knowledge. For SS1 entry, the exam covers the candidate's chosen department subjects. Examination dates are communicated at the time of form submission.

Interview & Assessment

Shortlisted candidates and their parents/guardians will be invited for a brief interview with the Vice Principal (Academics). This allows us to assess the candidate's readiness, discuss their academic needs, and answer any questions the family may have.

Admission Offer & Acceptance

Successful candidates will receive an official letter of admission. Parents must accept the offer and pay the first-term tuition within 14 days to secure the place. Failure to pay within this window may result in the offer being extended to the next candidate on the waiting list.

Orientation & Resumption

New students and their parents attend a mandatory orientation programme before the start of the academic year. Here, students receive their timetables, school rules handbook, and are introduced to the school community. Welcome to the Al-Musteqim family!

Important Notes:
  • Fees are reviewed annually and are subject to change. Any revision will be communicated with adequate notice.
  • Sibling discounts of 10% on tuition are available for families with two or more enrolled students.
  • A limited number of partial bursaries are available for academically exceptional students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds. Apply separately at the Bursary Office.
  • All fees must be paid directly to the school's designated bank account. Payments must not be made to individuals.

What is the minimum age for JSS1 admission?
Candidates applying for JSS1 must be a minimum of 10 years old and a maximum of 14 years old at the time of entry. Age is verified by the birth certificate or an age declaration sworn at a magistrate court.
Does the school accept transfers from other secondary schools?
Yes, we accept transfer students into JSS2, JSS3, SS1, and SS2 where places are available. Transfer applicants must present their last school report card, a transfer/leaving certificate, and sit our placement examination. Transfer into SS3 is generally not accepted.
What subjects are covered in the entrance examination?
The JSS1 entrance examination covers English Language, Mathematics, and General Knowledge (including Basic Science and Social Studies). The SS1 placement exam covers English Language, Mathematics, and two subjects relevant to the candidate's chosen department (Science, Arts, or Commercial).
Is the school day school or boarding?
Al-Musteqim Model School currently operates as a day school. Students are expected to arrive by 7:30 AM and are dismissed at 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. There are periodic late-stay programmes for special academic preparation and examination classes that may extend until 5:00 PM.
Are non-Muslim students admitted to the school?
While Al-Musteqim Model School is founded on Islamic values and the vast majority of our students are Muslim, we welcome students of all faiths who are willing to respect the school's values, rules, and Islamic environment. All students participate in Islamic Studies as an academic subject and are expected to observe the school's code of conduct.
When are entrance examination results announced?
Entrance examination results are typically announced within two weeks of the examination date. Successful candidates are notified by phone and a formal letter sent to the parent/guardian's address. Results are not available over the phone — parents must collect result letters in person from the Admissions Office.
Can fees be paid in instalments?
All tuition and levies are due at the beginning of each term before resumption. In exceptional circumstances, parents experiencing genuine financial hardship may apply to the Bursary Department for a structured payment plan. Such arrangements are considered on a case-by-case basis and must be applied for in writing before the term begins.
Does the school provide bursaries or scholarships?
Yes. The Al-Musteqim Academic Excellence Scholarship is awarded annually to the top three performing students in the entrance examination who meet our financial need criteria. Additionally, students who achieve exceptional results in WAEC/NECO (minimum of 8 A1s) may qualify for a tuition reduction in their subsequent year. Details are available from the school office.
What is the school's uniform policy?
All students are required to wear the official Al-Musteqim school uniform at all times. The uniform consists of a white shirt/blouse with khaki trousers/skirt, complemented by the school tie and badge. Female students are also required to wear the school hijab. Sports kits are worn during Physical Education classes and sports days. Uniforms are available for purchase from the school's approved supplier.
